Areas of Interest and Parliamentary Activities
Edite Estrela has demonstrated a strong interest and policy involvement in the field of MSDs, and most specifically rheumatic diseases. She has been one of the leader of the Women in RA campaign in the European Parliament.
In 2008, she co-authored a Written Declaration on rheumatic diseases that has been adopted by a majority of Members. The text calls on the Commission and Member States to better consider and address the issue of rheumatic diseases, notably through a greater awareness and information, as well as national action plan.
As a follow up to the adoption of this Written Declaration, Mrs Estrela recently tabled a Parliamentary Question to the Council and the Commission
Mrs Estrela has been EP Rapporteur for the following reports/opinions:
• Equality between women and men in the European Union
• Health and safety at work: workers who are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breastfeeding
• Natural Disasters (fires, droughts and floods) - environmental aspects
• The future of the Lisbon Strategy from the point of view of the gender perspective
