Health & economic indicators
This chart presents the dynamics of various economic and health indicators across a range of European countries (all figures are Eurostat data).
Data included examined the impact of MSDs on an individuals ability to work and, therefore, the impact on economies and society as a whole. We found that just as poor economy impacts individuals' health and wellbeing, long-term illness among the workforce negatively affects the financial health of the country.
On this tool each coloured bubble represents a country, and the size of the bubble illustrates the size of the country’s GDP. So as a bubble grows bigger, it means the GDP is growing. To track the relationship between a pair of indicators across a range of European countries, select the indicators from the drop-down menus by the horizontal and vertical axis. Click the ‘PLAY’ button below the chart to view changes over time. For example, if the horizontal axis is the expenditure on disability, and the vertical axis is the age of exit from the labour market – if a bubble moves up and to the left, people in that country stay at the labour market for longer as the expenditure on disability decreases. The panel on the right allows to view all countries at once, or to choose a specific country. Alternatively, you can hover on the bubble as it is moving to view the name of the country, and click on it to keep tracking the changes for that country.
