Edite Estrela MEP

Edite Estrela joined the European Parliament in 2004, where she has been leading the Portuguese Socialist Delegation since 2005. She is Vice-Chairwoman of the Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee, Member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and substitute Member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. She is Chair of the European Parliament's Interest Group on Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseasesa, as well as a Member of the Delegation for the relations with Mercosur and Co-President of the Committee on Social, Migration, Environment, Education and Cultural Affairs of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. She is substitute Member of the Delegation for the relations with the People's Republic of China.
She was the first Portuguese woman to be member of the Committee of the Regions from 1994 to 2002. She was the Chairwoman of the Committee of Women Elected Representatives of Local and Regional Authorities from 1998 to 2002, and has also been a full member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1988 to 1994 and then in 2002 to 2004.
